Tasty Tattoos
Let's face it: most of us around here LOVE tattoos. Theyre bright; theyre dark- colorful, or hidden in the shadows...but one thing IS for sure. No matter what you have, or want to get, there is ALWAYS a story behind it. So show off your art and tell us what you have and why you have it!

This is my favourite tattoo of mine. It was booked to be my first (ended up getting crappy flash a few days before)
I had always wanted to get a heart with the banner across it but didn't (still don't) like anyone enough to get their name on me. So instead I decided to change the banner for a musical staff and have the music to one of my fav songs. The music is from Duran Duran's song "Girls on Film" - it also meant alot to me because that year I had studied music and it changed my life. Met new friends, living in a new country etc.

Thanks boo. It's on my ribs. Worst pain of my life. We it did for 5 hours with maybe a 10 min break in between. It was gnar but so worth it.

This is my biggest and best tattoo so far. I love sugar skulls and that old school style so. The script says "Que Sara Sara"...whatever will be will be, just something to remind myself that things happen sometimes that you don't have control of, but it's meant to be that way.

i just got 3 new tattoos this week. on 4/17 i went to my friends shop in glendale. he is called baba and does amazing freehand stuff. he gave me a skeleton key. and another artist in his shop tennesse dave gave me a cute umbrella.
and last night the boys who live in the apartment below me were having a tattoo party. theyre cool guys and always have a new band or friends staying with them. and they had a tattoo artist friend from reno staying so i got a cute owl tattoo from him.

Angel wings - took a total of 12 hours to get theses done over a period of several months since I started them right before I went to college and could only get worked on when I had time to drive back to CT.
Chest piece -for some reason everyone thinks I'm jewish because apparently my chest piece looks like the star of david. It's not. It's the symbol of the fourth chakra, it's two intersecting triangles surrounded by lotus petals with the Sanskrit word for "air" in the center.

Yeah tattoo is becoming less and less taboo, but there are still plenty of times when I get weird looks from people. It's either a conversation starter (people talking to me who normally wouldn't-HEY lemme see your tattoos!) or they just pretend I'm not there and try not to look at me and hope I go away. A few times I've walked into places and had them go SILENT. With my colorful dreadlocks now, I'm getting even weirder looks.
I can't wait to finish my Alice in Wonderland sleeve, I know everything I want to do but I'm just way too broke! 
I also decided yesterday that I'm going to get a Futurama tattoo-The Robot Devil on one shoulder and Bender with his halo and metal angel wings from the same episode on my other shoulder. /nerd

When people go silent, it might not always be a bad thing.
While trying my best not to appear obvious and rude, I love staring at people with tattoos, dreads or other body mods. It's not because I'm judging them, it's because I'm admiring them and I just want to get a good look at their body art.

I haven't had problems in awhile because of my tattoos...I try to stick to the art genre. I worked for a video game publisher last, and now I'm in school for massage therapy, so I will be my own business. I think people are becoming more tolerant of it now, though. You could always go work for Apple!

Nerds have it the best when it comes to tattoos because I get the impression that nerd jobs really only care about how creative and educated you are on within your specialty. And besides, when have nerds ever cared about looks? They're too busy thinking about smarts!

I'm curious to hear job search stories from those with visible tattoos. I don't currently have any tattoos because I don't know what I'll end up doing after college and I don't want to chance a tattoo making a bad impression on an employer, especially since some employers don't allow visible tattoos whatsoever.
So, tattooed folks: Have your tattoos ever hindered you from getting a job? Ok, so maybe most "jobs" wouldn't care, but what about a career that pays $50k per year? Have you ever come into contact with any heavily tattooed executive level staff?

I don't have enough schooling for a good job so all I get are the shitty ones. I work at a coffee shop and STILL have to cover mine up. It really sucks and is a pain in the ass.

None of my tattoos have hindered me from getting a job but that is only because I can hide them when I need to. I have had several places require me to keep them covered. I think in general if you have a job where you are working with the public, even if it's a "good" job you would be required to hide your tattoos. I know the doctor's office where my mom works doesn't allow visable tattoos on any of it's staff. But I think a lot of it just really depends on the company and how concerned they are about the company image. When I was working at old navy they didn't care about my tattoos because most of their customers where younger people but now I'm working in a store that mostly has older customers so I do have to hide my tattoos.

I haven't had any problems with good jobs not allowing my tats or piercings. It was usually the shittier ones like fast food places that didn't want them due to safety or clothing stores at the mall. I have a full sleeve and I work in an office and it's always peeking out
new tattoo. im gonna have my artist re do my chest to look dark and romantic and gothy. this is session 1 =]
this is pretty much how i live my life burning the candles at both ends
both were done on the same day. i also got that day my thumb tattoos, a hitler stache and a friendship tattoo with my girl car. on my pinky.
